Statement about the artist by Charlotta Kotik, curator of the Brooklyn Museum

"Charles Pique of Arizona presents a fantasy if another kind, that of a lascivious paradise. Born in steamy Louisiana, he leans toward abundant, baroque shapes, strong colors, and visual excitement. The shrines of "jukebox city" are places of heightened physical pleasures. His hedonistic paintings certainly contrasts with the anxiety-ridden renditions of artists from major urban centers."
